Blessed New Year, 2009!

A new year, 2009, has come, beloved in the LORD! May God's blessings fill us all in the name of Jesus our Lord and Saviour and His power rests on us in His Spirit through the Word of God so that we might be faithful to Him and serve Him with all our heart and mind and strength. May He add His joy to us!

Christmas Events at St Andrews

We give honour and glory to the Lord Jesus in this great season of Christmas! There are some events to invite you all to celebrate our Lord's birth with us.

Carol Night in the Open: 12 Dec, Fri, 6pm

Carol Service in the Evening: 21 Dec, Sun, 6:30pm at St Andrews (Combined service with two other Presbyterian Churches in Townsville)

Christmas Morning Service: 25 Dec, Thu, 8am

Church Dinner

As the first event in a year's celebration of the 125th anniversary for St Andrew's Charge, the Congregation gathered on 4 Oct 2008, Saturday night. Here are some photos on that night.

Read the Institutes of the Christian Religion

Next year, the year 2009, will be the 500th anniversary of John Calvin's birth. For this reason, the General Assembly of the Presbyteryan Church of Queensland decided to recommend all congregations to read Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion. Any Christian should pick a copy of this excellent work of Calvin in the era of the Reformation and read it to renew his/her understanding of the Scriptures.

A Good Book to Read

"THIS LITTLE CHURCH STAYED HOME"

Written by Gary E. Gilley, an American Baptist pastor, it has a subtitle, "A Faithful Church in Deceptive Times." This book is only 178 pages thick, easy to read, but contains a deep spiritual warning to all Christians who live in this 'deceptive times' of 21 century - a time in a postmodern world. The first chapter draws a picture of a world that is in postmodern thinking, followed by three more chapters - "The Church's Mandate" (Ch. 2), "The Scriptures" (Ch. 3), and "Pressing Challenges" (Ch. 4).

The last chapter talks about the challenge of "Mysticism" which is truly relevant to all in our age. It also explains what "the Emergent Church" means and its true face which is another face of liberalism disguised and packaged in this secular culture of our postmodern age.

Strongly recommend to read if you haven't. This book will expand your spiritual eyesight to add more wisdom to guard you, your family and all in Christ's Church!
