What to expect

Before the Service

We meet in our church building at 119 Wills Street in the city in Townsville. There is plenty of parking onsite and free street parking on Sundays. As you drive in you’ll see our main church building, with a few people out the front greeting people as they arrive.

We have two services one that starts at 9:00am and one that starts at 10:30am. (It’s ok if you are running late, come on in, you won’t cause a scene).

During the Service

As you walk in you’ll be met by some friendly faces. Head inside and grab any seat you are comfortable with. If you have a pram or a little one with you, your welcome to bing it all in, and we do have a bit of extra space (and some toys) on the right hand side of the church if that’s helpful.

Each service includes singing and praying. If you’re new to church, don’t stress, you’re not expected to join in with us. We also take up a collection at our 9am Service – this is for our regulars who don’t give electronically, if you are visiting with us please be our guest and let the bag pass you by.

Each week we read a section of the Bible then one of our pastors will preach from the passage. We will look at what the Bible says and why it is relevent to our lives. The sermon usually goes for 20-25 minutes.

Kid's Programs

If you’ve got kids with you they are more than welcome in our kid’s programs during the Bible talk at our 10:30 service.

During the School term we run Kid’s Bible Time for primary school kids and Creche for pre-schoolers who can sit on their own. Both of these programs start after our Kid’s talk, and finish as the service finishes.

Our kid’s teachers are well trained to run a safe and fun program for your kids. We’re confident that your children will enjoy their time.

Your kids are obviously more than welcome to remain with you for the whole service as well.

After the Service: stick around for some morning tea

After the service, if you have kids in the kid’s programs you can head to the hall and pick them up. You are then invited to stay and chat and enjoy a tea, coffee and some morning tea. You can stay as long or as little as you like.

We hope that helps and we’ll see you soon!

Some Frequently Asked Questions

What shoud I wear?

There is no dress code at St Andrew’s you’re welcome to wear whatever you are comfortable in.

During school term we run programs during our 10.30 serivce for preschool aged kids (who can sit by themselves) and for primary school aged kids.

We begin together for most of the service, before the kids are invited to join the kid’s programs after the kid’s talk – just before we read the Bible and hear the pastor speak about it.

Everyone is welcome as St Andrew’s regardless of background or religion. We welcome anyone to come and explore why Jesus is worth following. We also run regular courses for those who are keen to find our more about Jesus and the Christian faith.

How long does church go for

Both our 9am and 10.30am services go for about an hour. Morning tea happens just outside the main church building and you’re welcome to hang around for as long as you like.

There are moments of active participation in our services, where we will stand and sing, say things like creeds or prayers together, or take part in the Lord’s Supper. You are free to be as invovled as you want – or skip it it altogehter if you’d prefer.

Absolutely! We encourage parents with babies to remain in the main church gathering even if your child is making some noise. However, if privacy or a quiet space is needed we have a cry room available. It can be acccessed through the corridor on the left side of the church, or through the external door on the right side of church. (We let everyone know where it is at the start of every service).
